Hamilton West.

Thk annual meeting of householders was held at the Public Hall last evening, Mi R. Peat chairman. Not nearly the number of persons attended that might have been expected, and aftei the repoit and balance-sheet had been duly adopted, the election of the committee for the ensuing year was proceeded with. Some considevable discussion took place as to the method to be adopted. Mr Knox proposed, and this was seconded by Mr Trewheellar, that the old committee should be re-appointed, substituting Mr MeLemon's name for that of Mr Yon Stunner, disqualified, owing to his having changed his residence to the East side. Several speakers objected to this mode of procedure, and suggested that each name should be proposed and seconded, and if more than the number were duly named to take a ballot in accordance with the regulations. This, however, eventually merged into an amendment, proposed by Mr J. Hume, and seconded by Mr MeLemon, that a new committee be appointed. Upon this being put to the meeting it was lost, and the original motion of Mr Knox was carried, when the Chairman, Mr Peat, declared the following gentleman duly elected as the school committee for the current year, viz., Messrs) J. Hume, R. Bradley, A. Campbell, J. Knox, G. Edgecumbe and S. McLern'on. A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the general meeting.

COMMITTKK MEKTIXU. "The liewly-eleeted committee immediately after jthe above, proceeded ■with their ordinary business after first electing Mr Hume as chairman, and Mr Knox as secretary arid treasurer. The first business brought forward was the reply of the board to the committee's application for an assistant master to the effect that the board could not accede to their request. The committee, however, were not satisfied with the reply, and instructed the secretary to write again arid ixrge the claims'of the school 6n account of the number on the roll and the advanced age of many of the scholars. Tjie question of the High School was very fully' discussed, and a sub-committee ' consisting of Messrs Bradley, McLernon, Campbell and Edgepuinbe, were appointed, to prepare a list of scholars who would take advantage ot the High School, and the committee were 'at the same 1 time to obtain the'guarantees from the parents or -guardians of their .willingness, to pay the stipulated annual fees, which the board estimate would reach from £6' ia £8.
