RECEPTION OF SIR WILLIAM JERVOIS AT WELLINGTON.
The new Governor, Sir William Francis Prumirond Jervois, arrived at Wellington by the steamer WaKatipu at midnight on Friday, but did not land till 2 p.m. the following day, when he was accorded a most enthusiastic reception. He was accompanied from the steamer by the Premier and other Ministers, and amongst those on the wharf were the dignitaries of the city, Bishops Hadfind and Redwood, and many others, the total number of spectators being about 7000. A magnificent triumphal arch had been erected on the wharf, and another at the gate of Government House. The Governor received an address from the Corporation, and another from the Oddfellows, to both of which His Excellency replied in felicitous terms. The local bands rendered very efficient service, and the customary salutes were fired by the local artillery battery.
