The Hamilton Case. Auckland, Last Night. Ix the Hamilton case tbe piisoueis icserved their defence, and weie committed for trial at the Supreme Court.
The Tallow Company. An application by the City Council for an injunction to prevent the erection ot the tallow company manufactory near the waterworks was refused, the jiuljjc saying that proof ot the nuisance hail not been given.
Sad Accident. A shocking accident happened to-day to a httlo boy named Leonard Gash, s.oven or eight years old. A number of boys were playing with the heavy toller on the Domain cricket ground, when the little fellow lell in front of it and it pas&ed over Ins head, killing him instan llv.

New Zealand Insurance Company. At the New Zealand Insurance Company's half-yearly meeting to-day, the report stated that "the net premiums, lu-ss i % eiiiM.irances, amount to £91,149, showing an increase of -£12,095 over those received .during the corresponding half-year of 1881. The past six months have been very disastrous to the underwriting interests in till p:>rts of the world, ami this company has not been fortunatt- enough to escape heavy losses both hi the fire and marine depaitments. From annexed statement of accounts it will be observed that after deducting all expenses, and making full estimite for all claims that have amen prior to 30th November, there remain to credit of profit and loss a balance of £19,487. Is proposed to pay a dividend of !te a sluie, which "will absorb €!.">, OOO, leaving t'4-!S7 to be carried forward to the next half-year."
