Isaacs. laudfffrLleu^yCol.rLyon.' Starter : R. H. D. i'crjjus'ion. Clerk of course : Mr F. R. .Smalc. Clerk of scales : Mr H. W. Moore. A race meeting under the auspices ot the above club was held on the Cambridge racecourse yesterday, and, was without exception the 'greatest success in every respect which this course has* wit- 1 nessed for some time past. Fully 1000 people M r ere present. The arrangements made by the stewards for the accommodation of the general public were perfect in every respect, and we are glad' to have to say that their efforts were duly appreciated by the public. There were an unexpectedly large number of vehicles on the course, all of which brought their compliment ol pleasure-seekera on to the ground. Mr W.K. Carter, the enterprising coach proprietor of Waikato, plied his coaches between the town and the course, and was liberally patronised each trip. Mr C. R. Johnson, the representative jehu of Hamilton catered for the Hamilton public, and his three-horse team was likewise well patronised. The grand stand was well filled, indeed it may be said that it was uncomfortably so, and a^ large number of ladies availed theml selves of the shelter which it afforded from the scorching rays of the sun. With the exception of the unpleasantness generally experienced of an unusually rscorchingsun, the weather was everything that could be desired. There was an absence of the under and over fraternity, and in the matter of betting this was confined almost entirely to a few friendly sweeps. The Hamilton Band, under, Mr Holloway, entertained the public to some good music, indeed lent an aid to tho clay's proceedings which music can alone give. The efforts of the club's indefatigable secretary, Mr W. Scott, to ensure a good'day's bport. were warmly and deservedly eulogised. Col. Lyon acted in his old capacity of judge, and Mr R. H. D. Fergusson, iv his office as starter, gave universal satisfaction. A word of praise must also be given to the handicapping, which was, as far as we could gather, faultless. As to the racing, Blucher carried off the hurdles, Quilp and Faugh-a-Ballagh having fallen, and Cossack, who ran a likely horse, having baulked. Mason, as on previous occasions, showed himself a good rider. The Maiden Plate was an excellent race, and one of the most exciting events of the day. Sour (Irapus made the running from start to finish, but was warmly chased by Saint, who nude a good seoond. Pioneer made the running for the first mile in the Handicap, but Ravenshoe, who was hard held, won as he liked. The Steeplechase was the event of the day. Faugh-a-Ikllagh did not face the starter, and Quilp took the lead from start to finish, nuking a very popular win. The other races, particularly the Trotting Race and the Publican's Purse, which was a gift to Ravenshoe, were also well-contes,ted events. The following is a more detailed account of the racing :—: — HANDICAP HUKDLK RACE, Of 20 soys. 2 miles. Over eight flights of hurdles, 3ft. Gin. high. Nomination, 1 soy • acceptance, 1 sow Mr W. K. Cossack nin oft 1 at the second hurdle, and the old roan went in pursuit of Norgrove's horse, Faugh-a-Ballagh keeping well behind. Cossack having been pulled round got iv the race again, and made excellent running, but was not able to work into position. Faugh-a-Ballagh fell over the second hurdle from the stand, but was soon remounted. Quilp threw his rider at the off side of the course leaving Blucher to win as he liked. A protest was entered by Mr Johnson against Blucher maintaining he had not jumped tho hurdle beside the stand, but after consideration it was dismissed by the stewards.

Sour Grapes was a long May behind for the first half-mile, but made the racing for the last mile, passing her opponents one after the other without much exertion. Saint looked a likely candidate for the first position, and ran Sour Grapes hard for the - last half-mile. Coming up home a splendid race was rim between the first and second horses ; but Sour Grapes won easy by about a head, leaving Saint a good second.
