A dreadful jftragedy'^was enacted at Howipk on ; Snnday fnprning. A man named Jamep G^Qwley/J'empbyed on Mr fX>, jNathan's datttte^^Whitefoord Park, /Turgiiga. tieat HoWifefe; had a (xuarrel wifclfhis wife/aild driven to desperation, so he says, battered her brains out with a box iron which he had in his hand ironing a shirt which the woman had refused to do. The pair lived very unhappily together, there being a great disparity in their ages, and he having a daughter by a former wife. The affair ere.ited a very painful imprcs&ion in tha neighbourhood where the wretched man and his victim were well known. Growley was subsequently arrested, au'd taken to'Aucklan'cl.
