Land Sale. Auckland, Last Night. Messrs Tonics a\d Co. offered^ to-day the property known as Papatotoi township, sub-divided into convenient allotments to suit purchasers, There was a large attendance of bidders, and the following sold at per acre :— Lots 2, £20 ;3, £20 .Is ; 4, £21 ; o, £20 los. Purchaser, Jas. Scott ; Lots 32 and 35, £18 5s ; 33 and 3(5 to 41, £14 15s Jas. Wallace ; 23, £18, Woolley. The following sold at per allotment :— Lot 11, £19 ; 12 and 13, £17 each ; U and 15, £16 each. Purchaser, 1\ Pa ton.

Mining News. Business on the stock exchange to-day was veiy brisk. There were notable variations in the price ot prominent stocks. This was especially the case in (Southern Cross and Prince Imperials. The former opened at 30s, and advanced to 32s (3d, and suddenly dropped to 275. Sellers, clearing, £2Ss, with no buyers. Prince Imperials performed similar gyrations. They started at 63s and advanced '2s Gd, but before the close were quoted at Otis. Mariners, Kuranui Hills, and Successes are firmer, the fine show of specimens to-day proving an inducement to a rise in shares. There was little or no demand for Coromandel or Te Aroha shares.

Sudden Death. Charles Byrne, a handcart man, was found dead this morning in Upper Queensfcreet, about 1 o'cldck. It appears an himate of Stanford's " boarding-house heard some person groaning as though in pain, and he immediately went out to ascertain the cause, and found the man lying in the glitter by the side of the path. He was opporently in a fit. He was at once lifted on to the side of the path, and the man called for assistance. Sergt. McMahon was soon on the spot, and oil moving, the body found it quite dead. Deceased was about 40, and leaves a widow and four children unprovided for. .'
