WELLINGTON, Last Night. At the Court of Appeal, to-day, the conspii.icy case of Adams was brought up, when Justice Richmond decided to grant a rule niu for a new trial in this case. It was undci stood that the argument for a rule absolute would be taken before the judges of the Couit ot Appeal, at the sitting of the .Supreme Court in Banco to beheld immediately prior to the commencement of the Appeal Court. The Court of Appeal was opened at 4 o'clock this morning, aud counsel were present to argue the rule on both sides — Mr Olliver in support of the rule, and Mr JMwaul Shaw and Mr Gully to show cause. It even transpired that the Croun case reserved in 10 Regina v. Adams, on a point that cropped up dm ing the tiial of Adams, had been added to the list of cases for disposal at the ptesent sitting of the Appeal Court. Their Honors, wishing to economise public time, were of opinion that it would be better to postpone the ease in Banco until after the determination of the Ciown case 1 cserved in the Appeal Court, which was expected to occupy considerably less time in argument than the former, which it was said would extend over nearly two days. Mr Olliver v, r <\b avciso to the Crown case reserved being taken first, if, in the event of its being determined adversely to Adams, it would prejudice the rule absolute. On the assurance that this would not be the ci&e, it was then definitely decided to postpone the rule absolute until alter the determination of the Crown case reserved, which is very low down on the first list. Mr Johnston, Minister for Public Works, left this afternoon on an official tour through the South Island. The steamer Sorrento, which loads in New Zealaud for London, arrived here from Sydney at 2 o'clock this afternoon.

CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. On Satuulay nighfc Slide and Robinson wrestled in Cumberland stylo for £50 a side and championship. DUNEDIN, Last Night. On (111 that Mr Arnold Maurath, soft goods man, has failed with liabilities £10,000. Mr Daniel Stephenson, manager for Royse, (Stead and Co., died Jon Saturday from exhaustion, caused l>y a shock to his system, resulting from the Waitati railway accident. He was on one of the hinder carriages which did not leave the line. He leaves a wife and three children. He was for a long time resident in Auckland.

WHANGAREI, Last Night. The opening of the railway extension to deep water was celebrated on Saturday by a trip along the line, upon the invitation of the contractor, iv which SjO people participated. Toasts oj an appropriate character wore pioposed, and suitably responded to.
