NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE MARKETS.

From the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agenry Compan>'s report, d.itcd November 2nd, we take the following extracts :— Woor .—Mail advices fiom London convejing the results of the first fortnight's s.i'os at the August-September series, fully confirm the cabled reports received and published by us at the time. For combing merino, the demand was {food, and pi ices ruled on a par with those current at the, close of the previous sales; but for crossbreds—espcnally the coarser descriptions—the market was weaker, and former rates were not obtainable ; just prior to the departure of the mail, however, the demand for this class of wool had improved, and a slight enhancement in values resulted. Shearing has been prosecuted with vigour throughout the North Island during the past month. Many of the i large sheds on the East Coast have already completed operations, and another month will find the bulk of the clip afloat. In the districts of Nelson, Marlborough, and North Canterbury, shearing is being pushed forward as the weather permits., but further south a start has scarce!) been made, owing to the recent inclement ■weather, l'rom every district we have good reports of the quality of the clip, " sound in staple, well-grown, and light in grease," being the general opinion nrri\cd at. Shiiki'skins.—C//;;i/t//wu//.—Large supplies have been biought forward at the weekly auctions, which have been readily absorbed by the trade at the following rates -—Butchers' crossbicds, 4s to 7s 4d ; mcrino-s, 3s Gd to 6s 0d ; lambs Is to Is id. Country skins, crossbred*, 3s to Us lOd: mciinos, 2s tid to 6s 3d. Station skins, s(d to(j]dper lb. balled pelts, 4s Gd to 5s (U per do/:, The number offered during the month, has reached 31,500, of which we have supplied 3,000. tlittklnud. —Supplies have come forward freely, and fuH-woolled have sold at 3s 5d to 6s 9d. Hides. —Autklaitd. —Hides have been in better supply, and superior quality have realised 3sd to 3:} d perlb. Tallow avd Fat.—Chi istchuuh. —The discovery that recent extreme prices lor rough fat were unremunerative, has led to the withdrawal of one or two boilers from competition at the weekly sales, and a consequent easing of \alucs is observable. We now quote ljd, lor inferior to 2^d, for good dry fat. Shipping tallow, 24s to 28s for medium, and 32s 6d for prime, with vcrj ! little offering. At<tf:/aiid.— l>d\o\v has only come to hand in small irregular lots, which realise 26s to 31s Gd the cwt. Gkain.—Chnstthun.fi. —"Wheat: lhc depression existing in this cereal when we List wrote, has become more pronounced during the interval, and a very weak market now prevails. (Since the opening of the month the price of flourjhas been reduced 10s per ton). Seconds, to medium quality cannot be quoted at over 3s t (id to is 2il, and chick teed, S-> to A-, (id. Ihe >oung crops arc everywhere looking splendid —especially in the winter-sown paddocks—which lor colour and strength cannot be surpassed. Ihe spring has been dull and cold, and unusual frosts have retarded the growth ol all late sown crops.—Oats. —Our anticipations ot an improvement in this market have been verified by a moie extended business passing, and a slight enhancement in values which have been established. We have placed some parcels at 3s 3d to 3s 4d for short teed, and 3s Id to Js id toi ordinary feed,ex store Duncdin.— Wheat: Millers are believed to be very low in stock, but in the expectation ot being able to pui chase cheaper later on in the season the} are stilt holding back. Qainaiu. — Wheat. Iransactions during the past month have been very limited, but a lew farmers' parcels have been disposed ot to local millers, istotks generally arc \cry light, and should j.n outside demand spring up, prices are more likely to harden than recede. Oats.—This niaiket has been very brisk during the Utter part of the month, and prices have accordingly advanced. . /takland.—Oats are slightly hrmer, holders seeking 4s, but with little business. Mauc is hrnier, linos of lust Coast having been sold at 4s !)d.
