CONCERT A T A LEX A NDRA.
Tub concert in aid of the funds of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, advertised to take place on Wednesday, the tOth inst., was, in consequence of the inclemency of the weather, necessarily postponed. The affair eventuated on Friday evening last, with a most gratifying result in the numbers who attended, and the entertainment provided for their amuse- | ment by the ladies and gentlemen who so kindly volunteered their services. Capt. ! Gascoigne, in a few well chosen remarks, | apologised for the absence of the Rev. Father Luck, "who was unavoidably debarred by duty from being present, and conducting the proceedings in person. As the Rev. Father's substitute, Capt. Gascoigne, however, fulfilled the position in the most agreeable manner. The Alexandra Band was in attendance, and played their most lively selections, as well as the music for the dance that followed. The programme was a long one, and calls for no particular remarks, as all did their best, and pleased the large and appreciative audience present, judging by the loud applause that was accorded to them. It is only fair, however, to remark that to Miss Sage -great credit is due for the success of the concert. For some time past hcreffortshavebeennnceas*ing to make the entertainment a success, whilst her songs, " Eileen Allanah" and " Killarney" were the gems of the evening. Miss Stewart also deserves a word of praise for the rendering gf the songs set down to her name, as well as her acting the part of Mrs Brown in the short farce with Mr 0. Ballet, who also was most amusing as Mr Brown. Mrs Gascoigne kindly assisted at the piano, and more than one of i the gentlemen amateurs, as well as the audi- , ence, must have been gratified by her .accomplished accompaniments. Miss .Stunner and Mr T. B. G.entil, were,, also 9f great a§9J9jance at tb,e instrument. At the close of,. the entertainments, Captain Gascoigne',' on behalf of .Father Luck and the- ladies and' .'gentlemen 1 interested, thsmked th r e '^udience^ for" Jlieir attendance" aiid* 7 ] attention:' " >r God save the Queen." played , by. the,.band, "closed the ?ei*o*Mco> tChe^a^e^fVafdfwas WMfito&Qffli. and' aWtidk&&'%fZMtf
