GISBORNE, Last Night. Tlie banquet given to Allan McDonald last night was a great success. About 100 poisons wore piescnt, including Sii Ucorqe Whitmoie, and seveial Napier «md Auckland visitors. Favorable reports has been received from the Southern Cross Petiolonm Works, and operations arc resuming with vigour.
NAPIER, Last Night. Mr Sutton adchrssol his constituents at Hastings, and was well received. He dealt chiefly with tue legislation of la&t session, relative to local government. A sharp shock of earthquake occurred at i o'clock this morning. The new Volunteer regulations are not favourably received by local companies, many members regarding them as a death-blow to volunteering in the distiict.

The new Volunteer regulations being deemed favourable to the project, it is undei stood that another eflort vdl be made to induce the Government to sanction the organisation of another Volunteer corps in Chris tchuvch. Tlie incendiary scare has been revived in Akaroa. On Saturday a Wickhfio hotelkeeper received an anonymous lettei threatening to barn down one of hib hotels, occupied by a man named Carra«h. A careful watch has since been kept, 'and the Mayor hat appointed two men to men to patrol at night.
