Sydney, October 3. The first three heats for the rowing trophies ottered by Mr Frank Punch were rowed to-day on the Parramatta River, and were won by E. Laycock, E. Irickett, and M, Rush respectively. The contest will be continued on the sth and 7th inst. A fire occurred at Mr Lawler's bedding factory in Georgo's-strcet last night, resulting in the complete destruction of the premises, and the death of a woman who was sleeping there. The coal lumpers on the Sydney wharves are demanding 3d per hour advance of wages, and a stiike is feared to be imminent.
