UNITY IS STRENGTH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— A Waikato Felhnongery Company (Limited) is about to commeuce operations, and a prospectus for the Waikato Slaughtering and Freezing Company (Limited) is about to be issued. Would it not be advisable, in the interests of shareholders, to unito these companies into one ; and thus save various expenses ; in this way : one manager, one secretary, one directory and one set of buildings, would do all the work wanted. Meetings of directors and shareholders cannot be convened without expense ; and these savings combined, would form no small item in the profits of any company, and in a case like the abovenamed companies, where slaughtering and fellmongery are so near akin, I think it very desirable that this union should be, and thus promote union ot interest. The united company should undertake the slaughtering and freezing of cattle for exportation, Sec, also have a good tannery to make the skins into leather, and possibly a means may be found to utilise the refuse, by converting it into a manure, to be resold to the shareholders, who will find in the long run that itwillbe far better to support one good company well managed, than it is to put their money into two or three 9mall companies, each with costly management for the capital employed. I am not a sharpholder in either company, my object in writing is to assist the promoters of both companies to place them, united, on a firm basis, so that they, or rather it, may ' become of permanent use to the Waikato settlers. Progress. Waikato, 2nd October, 1882.
