BAPTIST TABERNACLE FOR CAMBRIDGE.
The election of a suitable edifice by the Baptists of (J.imbiidgc in which to hold divine service, having for some time past been decided upon, a meeting of the congiegation was held on Monday evening last for the purpose of considering plans of a suitable building which had been submitted, and to decide upon their course of action in legavd to the same. Mr D. Whytock, pastor, occupied the chair. Plans, submitted by Messrs Herapath and Bartley, of Auckland, and Mes&srs Smerdon and Richardson, of Cambridge, were laid before the meeting, and after some consideration it was decided to accept Mr Richardson's plans, they being the most suitable. A building committee, consisting of Messrs J. Houghton (senr.), T. Tiewheellav, Jas. Johnson, J. Hill, Thos. Jones, T. Morris, Shoard, Alford, and Smerdon, was appointed to proceed at once with the erection of the new building. The" edifice to be erected promises, when finished, to be one of the finest buildings of the kind in the Waikato district, and will certainly be a valuableaddition to the otherfine churches in Cambridge, as well as a great convenience to the Baptist congregation, which has but recently been established in Waikato, and who have been obliged to hold their services in the Oddtellows' Hall. The proposed building measures 60 x 33ft. over all, and is of the Doric style of architecture. There will bo an open vestibule in the front, supported by two ornamental columns with pillasters and cornice to match. The entrance is approached by a flight of four steps. Two lobbies, one on either side, are entered from the vestibule, and these constitute the entrance into the body of the church. The body of the building measures 40 x 30ft. with a height of 22ft. There will be a vestry at the back 30 x 12, suitable for minor purposes. It is proposed to have the baptistry, which will be of brick and cement, immediately under the platform, and not on a level with the flpor. There will be sitting accomodation for about 200 people. The probable cost is estimated at about £400. A suitable site has been secured on the north side of the Lake on the Thonton road.
Messrs W. J. Hunter and Co. announce that they will sell early in September, on account of Messrs Graham Bros., ( (to close fiartnerihip accounts), at the Tamahere Yards Camp's Hotel), about 000 lonjrwoelled sheep, 180 head of cattio, 30 horses', including" th« entires "Tattler" and "Duke* of Beauclerc/ farming implements, -Sec.
