Poetry. A SONNET By Hamilton Mackinnon.
E'en as the way-lost traveller in the bush 01 Austral wild, whose weary feet have strayed Through pathless woods, with ne'er a bound to hush The beatings of his heart ; who, dire afraid To face another day of burning sun And drouthy waste, has laid him down to die, Feels, when 'waked from dreams, ho gazes on The gentle moon, unrobed, 1 in heavenly sky, That shines with pitying love thro' latticed leaves, So I do feel the soothing balm of love Which thou hast blessed me with : and as one weaves Sweet thoughts from contemplating heaven above, E'en so I weave this verse ; and, happy too ! I thank thee with a loyal love, and true.
