The Incumbency of S. Peter's. AcrcKiiAyj}, Last Night. The Bishop of Auckland has appointed the Rev. Mr Edwards incumbent of S. Peter's Church, Hamilton.
Another Burglary. Another of an extraordinary series of burglaries was perpetrated yesterday at the residence of Mr Haslett, Grafton Road. The occupants were away during the afternoon, and on returning found the contents of a room ransacked, and £32 stolen.
The Coffee Palace Company. At a meeting of the Coffee Palace shareholders to-day, it was finally resolved to wind up the company. The directors weic authoiised to dispose of the properties.
Auckland Stud Company. The Auckland Stud Company gave close on £10,000 for Mr Stead's racing stud. It is a very valuable lot.
Supreme Court, At the Supreme Court to day, Pitzgibbon obtained his discharge from the Bankruptcy Court.
Assault Case. At the Police Court to-day, John Gordon, formerly of Hamilton, was charged with maliciously assaulting his wife Margaret with a bar of iron, on the 4th instant, causing grievous boldily harm. The case had been remanded from a previous court day, owing to the serious illness of the wife of prisoner. Mr Pardy said that for some time past there had been domestic differences between prisoner and his wife, and on the evening iv question some drink was introduced, ami owing to an altercation, the prisoner chastised his wife with a bar of iroh (produced), and she had since been suffering in the .hospital tip to yesterday. Margaret Gordon, wife of the accused, deposed that slje w,as residing off Nelson-street.-Her husband brought ih three men on, the afternoon", of the" 4th iri3t., ' They were sitting'talkiiig, and b'iie laid down on the sofa.l', Abottle of !glri,\vas on' the table! They cbmmene'ed'drinking. r One, of the men,'(Harrison)''had'lodged at her-hobsei 1 -' Two of the men finished the' bottle of gin. To prisoner : You were the cause of all the drinking. Had you kept sober there would have been 110 disturbance. John Harrison, James Wilson (a carpenter), Constable Edward Lambert, and Dr Cooper, of the Hospital»also gave evidence. The depositions were read over, and prisoner committed for trial. Bail was allowed — accused in £50, and two sureties of £25 each.
