THE WAR IN EGYPT. [SPECIAL TO PRESS ASSOCIATION.] England and Turkey.— Operations on the Canal.— Sunstroke Effects. —Advance on Cairo. London, Sept. 11, 8 p.m.
Lobd Granville, in a decisive communication to the Porte, insists that the Turkish troops shall be debarked at once, at some point on the Suez Canal to be determined by Sir Garnet Wolseley. The Egyptian forces have advanced on both sides of the Canal, driving the Bengal Lancers before them. The enemy have been shelling Kassassin with thirty guns. A stampede has occurred amongst the animals in camp, resulting in nome damage. General Lowes cavalry of the First Division succeeded in defeating a very dangerous flanking movement attempted by the enemy, who advanced in spite of the artillery fire, until the 60th Rifles, Royal Marines, and 84th Regiment advanced, wheu they retreated in good order. Tnc Soudan troops bore the brunt of the battle, and lost 200 men. Armed locomotive trains .were engaged on both sides. The Highland regiments are being hurried to the front, but hundreds are disabled by sunstroke, and deaths are numerous. Sir Garnet Wolseley has abandoned Ismailia as his headquarters and base of operations, and is pushing on to Cairo.
