YESTERDAY'S SITTING. The Council met at 11 p.m.

p.m. The following Bills were read a third time and passed: — Gisborne Harbor Board ; Ashbiirton Racecourse ; "Fencing Act, 1881, Amendment; Municipal Corporations, 1876, Amendment; and the Portobello Road Board Enabling Bill. Th« following Bills were read a second time : —Cemeteries, Education Districts, and Rhodes' Estate Duty Bill. Sir G. \Vhitmork moved that the Council insist ou the amendments made in the Land Bill. —Carried. Mr Whitaker moved the second reading of the Rangipo-Murimotu Agreement Validation Bill. Mr Reynolds moved that it be read that day six months, as it had only been introduced a few hours. After some discussion the Council divided on the second reading. Ayes, 16; noes, 21, The amendment was lost. The Council rose at 12.35. The Council resumed at 2.30. Mr Wititaker moved the bill be committeed presently. Mr Holmes moved as an amendment that it be referred to the Waste Lands Committee to consider and report thereon. The amendment was subsequently withdrawn, and Capt. Fraser moved that it be referred to a select committee. The Council divided : —Ayes, 13 ; Noes, 16. The amendment was lost, and the bill ordeied to be committed presently. The Premier stated that he had just received certain information from the Government printer which would detain Parliament until Friday night owing to bills not being printed. The Council then agreed to insist on the a2nendments in the Special Powers and Contracts Bill by 14 to 12. The amendments made in the District Railways Bill by the Council were objected to by the House of Representatives as being a breach of privilge. Thereupon Mr Oliver moved that the Council do not insist on the said amendments, but subsequently withdrew it, for the purpose of appointing Messrs Bonar, Johnston and Oliver to draw up reason why the Council should insist on amendments. The Council adjourned at 4 p.m. till 7.30 p.m.
