WELLINGTON, Last Night. During the passage of the barque Nornian MoLeod from London to Wellington, a seaman named Newton, while aloft, missed his hold and fell on the quarterdeck, being badly crushed. On the following day he succumbed to his injuries. He was a young man, aged 21. At the inquest on Thomas Henson, drowned at Otirongo Bay, a verdict of death by occidental drowning was returned, Mr T. Price's sawmill, near Datefield Railway Station, was burnt eai-ly this morning. Nothing was saved. The engine and machinery were much damaged. The mill has only just started working. The origin of the fire is at present unknown. Vital statistics for August show births 111 ; deaths, 37 ; and marriages, 22.
