MURDER AT OPUNAKE. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
New Plymouth, Tuesday. A Tyholesk, named Unolls, and Antonio Schavcll, went up the Opuiiake-road yesterday, to sec about some bush falling, and were seen returning about half amile from Stratford. Schavell was seen passing through the town alone on his way home to Mklhuist Park. On Mr Grigg, foreman for the Ngaire Road Board, going up the Opunalce-road, he found Unolls' body stabbed in the back and abdomen, and covered with blood. He was in a reclining position against the bank at the side of the road, about five minutes' walk nearer Stratford than where the men were last seen together, There were signs of a seveie struggle having taken place, the victim having evidently fought hard for life. Schavell was ai rested at Mid huist last night, by Sergeant Cavall and Constable Topp. When Topp approached him he exclaimed '•Ah, I suppose you have come to take me away for killing that man." This morning he led the police to the spot where he had hid the knife, under a log clo&e to the spot where tho deed was committed. He is supposed to be mad. He was in a lunatic asylum some time ago.
