LAST NIGHT'S SITTING.
The House resumed at 7.30. In committee on the steam service resolutions, Sir J. Hall supported the Government proposal as to the 'Frisco sers'ice as reasonable. Mr Montgomery supported the Go vernment proposals. Resolutions Nos. 1 and 2 were agreed to. On No. 3 resolution Mr Johnston stated that if passed tenders would be invited for the service. Mr Levestam moved as an amendment, "That districts deriving advantage from the service should be specially taxed to provide the subsidy." Sir J. Hall, as a further amendment, moved, "That the service be a twomonthly one." The service would have to grow, which he had no doubt it would do. Messrs Lkven and Pyke supported the original motion. Mr Macandrew strongly supported the resolution as printed. He hoped in time to see a weekly service, or even a daily service. Mr Sheeiian opposed the motion as calculated entirely for the benefit of the colony from Wellington south, and inteuded ultimately to destroy the 'Frisco service. Mr C. Buchanan strongly supported the resolution. Mr Seddon opposed the resolution as being actually injurous to the West Coast. Mr Connelly supported the resolution. Mr Moss opposed the subsidy for the service. (Left Sitting).
