LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. YESTERDAY'S SITTING.

"Wellington, Last Night. The Native Reserves Bill was read a first time ; the Mines Act, 1877, Amendment Bill, the Lyttelton Harbour Board Bill, Employers Liability Bill, the Protection of Telegrams Bill were read a third time and passed. The Native Land Division Bill, the Native Land Act Amendment Bill, and the Otago Harbor Board Bill were read a second time. The following resolution, moved by Mr Chamberlain, was pass«d, the Government assenting to it : — That in the opinion of this Council it is desirable that the telephonic apparatus be utilised within the public gaols, prisons, hospitals, and lunatic asylums of the colony. On the motion of Mr Reynolds all farther papers connected with the case of Q. F. Ward, junr., were ordered to be laid on the table. The Council adjourned from 5 till 7.30 p.m.
