NEW, PLYMOUTH, Last Night
At 5 a.m. this morning the Stratford Hotel was burnt down. Most of the fnrnituie was saved. The fiie is supposed to have originated in the spirit store under the stairs, and went up the lining to the loof. The insurances aie: —On building—Victeria, £500 ; stock—Norwich Union, £250 ; United, £150. An inquiry into S. Andrew's Church fire was held yesterday, and occupied the whole day. The jury letiied at about 10 last night. The following \ erclict was returned :—" The Scotch Kirk was ruthlessly set on fire on the morning of the 19th August; but the evidence is not sufficient to implicate any person or persons." The following rider was added to it: —"The jury recommend the authorities to offer a reward for any evidence th.it would lead to the conviction of the perpetrators, and that free pardon be granted to an accomplice giving such evidence."
