On arrival ther e'j a -.body of sailors was landed,, ,aud,an natives in the place were disarmed. No resistance was offered by the latter. This ruse having been successfully accomplished, it is now probable that the fleet and transports will proceed to-day to Aboukir, and forthwith commence the assault on the forts there. All traffic through the Suez Canal has been temporarily stopped by order of Sir Garnet Wolscly. It is now known that the cannonade which was heard yesterday in the direction of Mahamidich Canal was the outcome of a skirmish which occurred between General Hamley's advanced guard and Arabi's outposts, beyoud Kafradowav. The action was not of a serious character, and casualties on either side were slight. A short skirmish between outposts occurred at Bamleh this afternoon. The enemy attacked steadily, but the British, who were unprepared, withdrew. An ironclad railway train was then despatched dowii the line, and cannonaded the enemy severely. Tradesmen are returning to Cairo. Later. Port Said is occupied by the British forces, and a detachment of troops has been despatched to occupy Ismailia, and also Kautara, a station on the Canal, 25 miles from Port Said. The Khedive's Governor at the latter place has been reinstated in his position and placed under British protection. Further particulars are to hand regarding the skirmish which took place yesterday between General Hamley's force and the enemy, show that the latter offered but slight resistance. During the engagement the enemy's guns at Nefich fot a time shelled the British position. All is, however, now quiet in the neighborhood.
