Alexandria, August 18. The whole of the first division of the British forces ahout to be despatched to co-operate* with the -fleet in -the attack upon Abonkir, and to land at that place, have embarked on board "the transports, which are all ready to" sail. Three regiments of British troops .remain here as garrison for the city. r Later. The transports with the British first division have left, and are now steaming to the ea&tward, bound for Aboukir. All the vessels are full of troops. According to authentic information which has transpired; Sir Garnet Wolseley^ will personally command the force which is being despatched to Aboukir. Major-General Hamley will command the second division, and will co-operate with Sir Garnet at Ramleh, the junction of the two forces ultimately being effected at Kafradowar.

Alexandria (Saturday 1 Night. A continuous and heavy cannonade has been distinctly heard since this afternoon in the direction of the Mahmudiclr Canal, but the cause of the firing is not yet known.
