SirG-arnet Wolsely. Alexandria, August 16. Sir Garnet Wolsely, commanding the British forces in this country, presided at a Council of War held to-day.
Sir Garnet's Proclamation. Alexandria, August 16. Sir Garnet Wolsely has issued a manifesto inviting the co-operation of the native chiefs in restoring order. The manifesto also guarantees respect of religion and property to all peaceful inhabitants.
Loisdon, August 16. A batallion of Aralii's troops have made overtures for surrender. Railway material is being sent to Suez, to relay the old Cairo line. The Sultan has definitely abandoned Arabi. The Bedouins have been routed near Mandara, losing five men. Baron De Lesseps has prevented the laying of the proposed new cable from Port Said.
