THE SEPARATION QUESTION.

Wklmxgtox, Last Night. In the House to-day, Mr Driver gave notice of motion that, on going into Committee of Supply, he would move that in the opinion of this House, it is impossible that one Central Legislature and Administration can longer manage the local affairs of the two islands, and make the annual approprition in an equitable and satisfactory manner : — (2). That to maintain the federal unity of the colony, and secure more economical administration, and just legislation it was absolutely necessary that there should be an intermediate financial arrangement between the two Islands. (3.) That a respecfnl address be presented to His Excellency the Governor, to the effect that he may be pleased to appoint a Royal Commission to t enquire into the financial position of the two Islands, having regard to the revenue and expenditure in the past ; and recommend terms upon which such financial adjustment may be carried out, and that a bill, based upon such recommendations, be prepared during the recess, and introduced within 14 days of the meeting of next session of Parliament.
