CAMBRIDGE HIGHWAY BOARD.
i ! The ordinary nionthly meeting of the above board was held at Mr Runciman's house, Broadmeadows,' on Wednesday last. There was a full attendance of members with the exception of Mr Runcimuh. The board having gone round the district on a tour of inspection to see what woi-ks were 'necessary and requiring immediate , attention, it was estimated that something like £1000 would be required to enable the board to effect the necessary improvements. This sum includes the debt which was bequeathed to them by the previous board. From a statement of accounts laid before the meeting, the liabilities of the old board when they left office amounted to £140. The l'ates collected annually in the district only reach £400 ; and this being the case it was decided to call a special meeting of the ratepayers to consider the advisability of striking a special rate.— The following is the schedule of works deemed necessary to be undertaken this year and for which a special rate is thought desirable :—Fencing gravel pit at cemetery (estimated cost) ' £1 10s ; clearing Mangahau road, £6 ; draining, fascining, &c, £6 10s ; road forming near Dougherty's, £5 ; gravelling near Hitching's, £9 ; do. near Maclean's, £3 10s : forming and gravelling near Fen Court, £70 ; do.
