OBSTRUCTIVE NATIVES.
Mb Baker, surveyor, who has been engaged for some time past sub-dividing the Whaiti-Kurunui lauds of xVlessrs Howard and Dilworth, has had a somewhat unpleasant encounter with the natives who profess to have a say in that block. The other day a number of the obstructionists gathered round the camp ol Mr Baker, and objected to the way in which the sub-divisions were being made, and also demanding payment. Mr Bak( r not coucedhig to their peremptory (demand, they took e\ ery thing in the camp, including all the surveyor's goods and chattels, and a hired horse belonging to Mr R. Kirk wood, of Cambridge, leaving nothing but the fly of a tent. Mr Baker subsequently found his way into Cambridge, but we have not as yet learned what steps he has taken to recover his property.
