AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKETS.
Mr Alfred Buckland'b Webkly Report.— * At the Haymarket, on Friday, July 28, fodder was not so abundant *s usual, owing no doubt to the wet weather, and for the same reason did not realise late values. There was not a large number of horses offered, but with few exceptions, all those brought forward were disposed of at satisfactory prices. The 24 horses advertised to conic from Wanganui were not in time for the market, but will bV«pld next Friday. At the Haymarket, on' Tuesday la' fuller than usual supply of hides met a. brisk sale, ranging in price from 3d to i\ the lb. OT.Sheepskint, it usual number, brought from 2s to 4s Od each. Tallow was in better inquiry than of late, and brought from 23s to 27s Cd the cwt., washed wool, BJd the lb. At Remuera, on August 3, a large number of dairy stock were yarded, prices ruled very low. Young store """cuttle were in better inquiry, and improved prices obtained. Fat cattle were unusually numerous, consequent on an unexpected arrival from the East Coast. Prices ranged from 21s to 25s the lOOlbs. Light plump cattle brought the higher price freely, but coarse and heavy cattle were at the lower\alue. r Sheep were yarded in limited number,- 'only,' but prices were lower than last week." A fuller than average number of pigs met wi'h a brisk sale. Averages %vere— lo steers, H. and J. Goodfellow, £8 9s : 9 heifers, A. J. OldBam, £8 ; 24 steers, A. Brure Suttor, £8 5s Cd ; .I ! vB3 steers, JjJ j Runcinjan, £7 3s Cd. Messrs Hunter and Nolans Wllkly RlPORT. — Horses : The supply has not been large, but there has been an improvement in the demand, and prices have had an upward tendency. At the Durham Yards, on Friday, the number entcied for disposal by auction was below the .average, but there was steady competition throughout the sale, and there was an upward f tendency in values. We quote : Hacks from £7 'Vs 0d to £14 15s ; spring cart horses, from £17 m tp £25 ; medium draught, from £10 to £23 10s. Hides and skins : Hides in smaller number than . usual j for well -preserved there was an improvement in last week's quotations. Skins, from Is lid to 4s 4d. Cattle : The supply of all descriptions has been an average one, and prices for all kinds of stock, with the exception of springing cows has an upward tendency. At Newmarket, on Tuesday, there was an average number of dairy and fat stock, and but a limited one of stores. At Papakura, on Wednesday, there was a good muster of all descriptions, but competition was rather slack, except for steers in fresh condition. There has been a marked upward tendency for prime fat beasts, 28s per lOOlbs having been given for top sorts. We quote : Calves, from 10s to 20s 0d ; yearlings, from 23s to 34s ; heifers, from £2 10s to £4 ; dry cows, from £2 to £i ; two-year-old steers, from £'6 5s | to £4 2s Gd ; dairy cows, from £0 5s to £0. Sheep : Supply short, and as a rule, in indifferent condition. Prices were a shade higher than last week. Pigs : But few yarded : prices nominal.
