T>IAKO COUNTY. Public Notification. " Counties Act, 1876," sees 176 and 177 ; and " Slaughterhouses AcV 1877," sec. 20. Take Notice, that at a special mcc.ting of the Piako County Council, held on the 3rd day of March, 1882, the following by-laws were made and adopted for the regulation and management of licensed slaughterhouses within the Piako county. 1. Wherever in these by -laws any of the terms defined in section 5 of the "Slaughterhouses Act, 1877," are used, such terms shall, in the construction hereof, have the meaning assigned to them by the said section of the said Act, as amended by the second section of " The Slaughterhouses Act Amendment Act, 1879," unless there be something in the context or subject-matter repugnant thereto. 2. The License Fees for slaughterhouse licenses, shall be as follows : — For slaughtering cither, or both; laige and small cattle, £5 per annum. For every license issued after the thirtieth day of Juno, in any year, the fee shall^ be one-half' of the annual license fee payable in respect of such license. 3. Applications for new licenses, and for renewals of licenses, shall be as nearly as possible in the following form :—: — To the Chairman of the Piako County Council. I hereby apply for a license to slaughter cattle at my slaughterhouse [or yards], situated at Dated this day of , ISB (Signatmc.) 4. Every application for a license shall be sent to the clerk of the Piako County Council, and in the case of an application of a new license, a copy thereof must be forthwith publicly notified by the applicant as provided by "The Slaughterhouses Act, 1877," section 24. 5. The Clerk of the Council shall give public notice of the time and place for hearing such applications and any objections which any person may have to make thereto. 6. Any license to slaughter may be transferred by the Council to another licensee on payment of a sum of ten shillings, the same notice to be given as is hereinbefore provided in the case of application of renewal of license. 7. No license shall be granted for any slaughterhouse situated within live chains of a public road. S. Every slaughterhouse shall at all times be provided with a sufficient supply of fresh water, and all cattle confined on the premises thereof or in any yard or enclosure connected therewith, shall be properly fed and watered at least once in every twenty-four hours. 9. Every keeper of a slaughter house shall at all times keep the same, and the premises connected therewith, and the appurtenances thereunto belonging, in a clean state and clear from offensive effluvia, and in all respects to the satisfaction of the Inspector, and every such keeper ot a slaughterhouse shall so dispose of the blood, offal, and other refuse matter therefrom that the same shall not create a nuisance nor be offensive to persons residing or being in, or passing through, the neighborhood of such slaughterhouse, and no such keeper of a slaughterhouse shall permit any blood, offal, or refuse matter to flow, fall, or be thrown, or put into any river, stream, drain, or watercourse. 10. Every keeper of a slaughterhouse and all person employed in any slaughterhouse shall be bound to obejr the reasonable orders of the Inspector. 11. The Inspector may forbid the slaughtering of any animal in any slaughterhouse in case such animal shall not be in a fit state for being slaughtered through disea&e or otherwise, and it &hall be the duty of the Inspector to prosecute any person who shall be guilty of cruelty to any animal in any slaughterhouse. 12. The inspector shall, on or bcfoic the fifteenth day of December in each year, furnish the Council with a report in writing stating generally the condition in which the several slaughterhouses in fhc County have been kept during the year. 13. The Inspector may demand, and receive from every keeper of a slaughterhouse in respect of cattle slaughtered therein the following, that is to say : For all large cattle threepence for every head thereof ; and, for all small cattle one half-penny for every head thereof. 14. Any person who shall commit a breach of any of the provisions of these by-laws shall, on conviction thereof, be liable to a penalty not exceeding five pounds. It is hereby notified that the Waitoa Highway District Board intend to meet in the Phoenix Hotel, Morrinsville, on the 19th day of August, 1882, at 11.3,0 a.m., for the purpose of MAKING ARATE of One Shilling in the Pound on all rateable property in the district for the period commencing on the Ist day of April, 1882, and ending on the 31st day of March, 1883, to become due and pay--^ able in one sum on the 2ad day, of" September, 1882.
