LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. LAST NIGHT'S SITTING.
Mr Oliver brought in bills entitled the District Railway Act Amendment Bill, and the Pharazyn Disabilities Removal Bill, which were read a first time. Mr Chamberlin asked if Government would bring in a bill to stop juvenile smoking. Mr Whitaker said it was an exceedingly difficult thing to put down these practices by legislation, but if Mr Chamberlin would bring in a bill to stop smoking by everybody he would support it. On the motion of Mr Wilson a return was ordered of all persons who have been imprisoned for debt during the past year. * f Mr Wilson moved that in the opinion, of the Council persous who have become* bankrupt should not be retained' on the Commission of the Peace .' quest of Mr Whitaker, who promised to make enquiries. The Small Birds Nuisance Bill was read a second time after much opposition, an amendment to throw it out being negatived. The Council rose at i. 30.
