, *!"■ TitE annual meeting of ratepayers of the Tuhikaramea highway district was held at the school on 1 Saturday week, a fair number of ratepayers being present. The chairman (Mr E: N. Buttle) requested the secretary to read' the balance-sheet for the past year, which wa's adopted on the motioh-of Mr' Carter, seconded by Mr Livingston.—The following ratepayers were proposed as, trustees for the ensuing year :—Messrs'' 'R.' N. • Buttle, P. W. Laing, H. Hadfield, F. J. Vickers, and Glassori. 1 Messrs' W: 'Reid and >R. Carter were auditors. others expressed views, and it was agreed that all available information on the subject should be gathered, with a view to doing something in this direction next season.—Some little discussion then rtook place respecting the present unsatisfactory state'of \the postal communication. Having" only one mail a week is undoubtedly a great drawback to the district, and it was agreed that the chairman of the new board should bo requested to write to the member for Waipa, urging that a change should be made, and also that the postmaster should be paid, Mr F. Vickers having acted as postmaster for the past six yeai's without anyTeinunera-* tion, which is certainly not a reasonable thing to expect any . man to do.—The newly-elected board Ji.eld a meeting and re-elected Mr F.
