CORRESPONDENCE. FENCING SYDNEY SQUARE. TO THE EDITOR.

Slit, — For the information of those interested, you will oblige oy publishing reply from the Domain Board >c fencing Sydney Square, being very unique, and give it in full : — " Sir,— I have the honor by direction of the Domain Board, in reply to your letter requesting Sydney Square to be fenced and planted, to inform you that they cannot undertake the work, the overdraft being as much as the Bank will allow, but that if the persona interested, in this matter have any fund in hand, and will pay the same over to the board they will see that the money is judiciously expended, and accounted for. — I have the honor, &c, &c. I can state, without fear of contradiction, that the first statement is not according to the fact. For the finishing piece of eondecension on behalf of the board the " persons interested" cannot feel other than grateful. There is no person in Hamilton who is not directly or indirectly interested in this work. Had the ground been fenced, the gate-money at the late cricket match would have recouped the cost of fencing and planting, - and the burgesses would have a recreation ground on which all matches of cricket or football, of any importance, would in all probability be contested. The cricket club are prepared to expend £40 more, as soon as the ground is fenced, and this in addition to what has been already laid out would make ,the , ground a credit to the borough, and unequalled in Waikato, instead of a standing 'disgrace as at pre- ■ sent. I trust the Domain Board (it must' have been a very small meeting) ,\vill reconsider the matter; the reserve can only be vested^ them. Had>'it'been otherwise, trustee's could, and would have rbe.en appointed, who, would have* had <the * work dene, and could see their way to raakeifcpay Noose*- than, „on the outlay.^Midimpjy. atomut '« tlie 'WMU lt &Wmd» fit .V ni'ak^to : 'vincing (?
