THE LATE SUICIDE NEAR RAGLAN.

Our Raglan correspondent, writing on Tuesday, confirms the account of the painful suicide of Capt. Johnstone, which we published in Tuesday's issue. He furnishes the following account of the inquest which was held before the coroner, Mr Wallis, on Saturday last. Lindsay Johnstone deposed to having come on the Wednesday previous to stay with his father in a house about two miles from where the rest of the family reside. He was in the usual humour, and on retiring to bed told him (witness) to get np early in the morning, and dry his clothes. While cooking the breakfast his father was writing. After finishing breakfast, deceased told him to go and fetch some firewood, and jusfc as he got into the bush heard the report of a gun in the house. Returned to the house and found his father lying on the bed, with his clothes burning. Extinguished the fire, and found he had shot himself through the heart. Emelia Johnstone deposed to having heard of the sad occurrence from her brother, and immediately went to the scene of the suicide. The jury returned a verdict to the effect that deceased had committed suicide while labouring under temporary insanity. The deceased gentleman left several letters to different persons, stating the reasons he had for taking his life. .These will be published in a few days. The general opinion of everybody is that he never recovered the shock he suffered from the death of his daughter three months ago.
