With reference to the cablegram announcing the appointment of Father Luck as Catholic Bishop of Auckland, the Vicar General says he has as yet received no intimation regarding the appointment, so that the statement must not, be accepted as absolutely certain. Father Luck is a native of Kent, England, and is 42 years of age. He was educated in England, joining the Benedictine Order in 1860. He has recently been in Malta, labouring in the Benedictine Monastry in that dependency. He is the author of several religious works, the most notable of which are "Series of Meditations," and " Life of St. Benedict." Bishop Redwood proceeded south by the Wanaka to-day. The divorce suit, Snowden v. Snowden and Plavell, came before the Supreme Court to-day. The petitioner was married to the respondent at Whangaroa in 1871, when the former was 20, and the latter 16. The marriage was against the wish of the girl, but at the parents' request. Five days afterwards Snowden went to work in the bush, and when he returned he found his wife had ran away with Flavell, with whom she had been living ever since, and by whom she had five children. There being no opposition, the application for dissolution of marriage was granted.
