PARLIAMENTARY NOTES. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] A No-Confidence Motion Probable.

Wellington, Last Night. The Post to-night has the following:—"lt is stated veiy positively in the lobbies that a want-of-confidence is to be moved by Mr de Lautour, as representing all sections of the Opposition, aud that he ■will be supported by Sir G. Grey and Mr Montgomery. It is further reported that the (notion will take the general shape of an expression of opinion that the policy of the Government is unsatisfactory, and that every effort will be made by the Opposition to force it to a division as quickly as possible. It is said that the Opposition assert themselves able to secure either a tie or a majority of two, but the Ministerialists claim still to have a majority of from four to six on such a question. The motion would probably take the form of an amendment traversing one of the Government measures, in order to avoid the necessity of giving notice which would be requh-ed if it were made a substantive motion."

The Vacant Portfolio. One of the latest rumours in the lobbies is to the effect that a seat in the Cabinet is to be offered to Mr H. M. Tawhai, member for the Northern Maori Electoral District.
