CORRESPONDENCE. THE CAMBRIDGE RAILWAY STATION SITE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — would you kindly allow me space in your valuable paper" to refer to .an article headed " The Cambridge Railway Site." By that article I see the board are desirous of assisting themselves and their friends at the public expence. It really is a nice little scheme if it succeeds, to sell their lands in a back street at a front street price. • Our worthy chairman's house would then hold a beautiful front position instead of being at the back of Rally's brewery and Raynes' hotel as it now is. It is really too much to try and saddle the country with the expeuce of embellishing our worthy chairman's property, and purchasing Mr Kirkwoods back street acres. An efficient and qualified engineer tells us what is required, and our chairman quite ignores his opinion, and tells us he will apply through the member for Waikato to the Minister for Public Works. I hope they will not succeed in cajoling our honest member. It is just on the cards that he might not suspect them of being so very philanthropic, and urge the desirability of the Government purchasing lots 411 to 418, never thinking it was a job. Hoping that our worthy member will see this in time to stop their little game.— l am, &c, QUEEN-STRRET RATEPAYER.
