PUKEKURA HIGRWAY DISTRICT. Annual Meeting.
The annual meeting of ratepayers of the Pukekura Highway District was held at the Pukerimu school-room on Friday, 14th July. About 22 ratepayers were present. The chairman, Mr Lake, read the advertisement calling the meeting, and requested the ratepayers to elect a chairman, in accordance with the Highways Act. Mr Wm. Sturges being voted to the chair, reqnested the secretary to read the statements of receipts and expenditure, which was as follows :—: — Receipts. — Dr. to balance in bank, £268 12s 2d ; rates collected to 30th June, 1882, £255 2s 3d. From General Government : Subsidy on rates collected, £201 10a 4d ; subsidy Waipa C.C., £35 16s 8d j sale of land in roads stopped, £49 3s lOd ; half share of constructing bridge at Mystery Creek, £41 9s Id : interest on F.D.R. for six months, £1 14s 4d ; refunds, postage, 12s 3d ; deposit on contract, £10 ; half cost of cutting bank at Cowley's creek, £2 19s 6d ; arrears, rates, 14s lid ; total, £867 14s lid. Expenditure. — By forming roads, £374 9s 5d ; gravelling roads, £32 2s 8d ; bridge and culverts, £135 3s 5d ; repairing roads, £69 10s 6cl ; advertising, £28 Is 3d ; deposits returned, £10. Sundry expenditure : Commission on rates, £15 6s Id j salary, £13 13s 6cl ; preparing leases of land, £6 6s ; court costs, &c, £11 19s 2d ; postages, &c, £2 10s 7d ; total, £49 15s 4d ; balance in bank, £167 5s 7d ; in secretary's hands, £1 6s 9(1 ; total, £867 14s lid. Liabilities. — Accounts owing, £29 Is sd ; Walker's Gully bridge, £40 ; special grant gravelling, £50 ; balance available, £49 10s lid ; total, £168 12s 4d. Assets.— Balance in bank, &c, £168 12s 4d. After the adoption of the foregoing report the election of trustees for the ensuing year was proceeded with, M'hich rusultod in the old board being unanimously le-elected, viz., Messrs Lake, W. Scott, R. Fisher, J. Grice, and E. Allen jun., with Messrs S. Fleming and Francis Hicks, auditors. The Chairman explained that owing to the repeal of the Provincial Fencing Acts it would not be necessary for the ratepayers to elect fence-viewers as formerly. It was also moved as as an instruction to the new board for the ensuing year that the rate should be Is in the £. Several matters affecting the welfareiof the district were discussed after the election of officers, and of thanks to the chair closed the annual a vote meeting. Meetikg ok the New Board.— At a subsequent meeting of the new board Mr E. Lake was elected chairman, and Mr H. Fitzgerald, secretary and collector. It was also resolved that the board meet on Wednesday, August 2nd, atthe Pukerimu school-house, for the purpose of striking a rate of Is in the £, and that the future meetings of the board should be held at the same place on the first Wednesday in each month.
