LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
Extension of the City. Auckland, Last Night. A telegram from Mr Swanson, M.H.R., reports that Ponsonby is to be joined to the city from the 23rd of this month.
Drowned. The body of a man who was seen to fall off the Rangiriri bridge into the river, some days ago, has been recovered, but not identified. He is supposed to have been a tramp.
Till Lifting. Two boys have been arrested for robbing the till of Jas. White, draper, of Parnell.
Mr J. S. Buckland advertises a horse sale at Cambridge, on Saturday, July 22nd, and a live stork sale at Ohaupo, on Tuesday, July 25. The annual meeting of ratepayers in the Pirongia district will be held on Saturday, the 20th inst. A prominent dealer in beef at Quincy Market, U.S.A., states that he sells to' the manufacturers of oleomargarine nearly 40,000 pounds of auet and tallow, per month, the results of the cattle dressed for his own sale alone. A pork packer in the same market ships 100,000 pounds of leaf-lard weekly to New York city for manipulation into butter imitations.
