ing, should be vested in the board as town endowments. They would therefore have to apply to the Government asking to have the .allotment handed over, and, while doing so, he thought they should also apply to have the market reserve opposite the National Hotel, together with the ground upon which the sale-yards and board office were situated handed over also. The four 1 allotments were numbered respectively, 598,, 617, (Public Hall, site) and 374, 375, (market and sale-yard sites). He believed the Government had power to hand over these allotments without special legislation. It was resolved that the chairman be requested to act in accordance with his own remarks. Nixon questioned the action of the chairman in having the iron work for the bridge executed , in town.. He thought, ! though not speaking feelingly, that the j iron work should have tendered for in ! Cambridge, as going to Auckland for what i they could get in Cambridge was a very I unseemly precedant to establish. — The Chairman said the work could be done cheaper in Auckland, and much miicker than it could be done in Cambridge. They were aware how little time they had to spare, which admitted of no delay to wrangle about where the work should or should not be done. It was not his special business to look after this matter, and it was for the other members of the board to see that work did not go out of the place. Eailway Station Site.— lt was agreed to urge oil the Government the desirability of taking the whole of allotments 411-418, and have Queen-street East as a frontage, instead of the present idea of only taking half these allotments, and having to leave a chain wide street in the centre. Crs. Nixon and Johnson expressed, their dissent, but the resolution was carried on the voices. Striking a Rate. — On the motion of Cr. Nixon it was resolved to strike a rate of one shilling in the £ on all rateable property, the same to be payable in one sum on the first of August, 1882. — Carried. Elkctric Lioiit. — Cr.
