AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS IN ENGL AND. [REUTERS TELEGRAMS.]
London, July 3. The Australians commenced their match against the eleven of Northamptonshire, at Northampton to-day. The Home team went in first, and were all disposed of for a total of 122. The Australians then commenced their first innings, and at the close of the first day's play, had scored 143 for the loss of only four wickets. McDonnell was bowled for 38. and Griffon, not out, had made 41.
London, July 4. The cricket match at Northampton between the Australian team and an eleven of Northamptonshire was continued to-day. Great interest was taken in the match, and theie was a lruge attendance of spectators both to-day and yesteiday. 'ihe Australians resumed their fhsst innings, winch closed for a total of 270, a& against 122 of the home team. The following were the piincipal scorers :— Giffen, c.uight, 43 ; Bonnor, run out, 53 ; Garrett, bowled, 32. The home team then went in for their second innings, but only succeeded in putting together GO, the Austialians therefore winning the match in one innings with 88 runs to spare. Gariett and Palmer bowled splendidly for the Australians during the match, the former in the first innings taking three wickets for 27 runs, and Valiner in the second innings aix wickets for 22 runs. The weather to-day was cold and inclement.
