HAMILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Tun ordinary fortnightly meeting of the council was hekl List night. Piesent : Crs. Gauclin (in the chair), Bradley, Tippen, Robson, and Peat. — The Town Clerk read a letter from the Mayor, stating that he had to proceed to Auckland that day, and apologising for his absence.— Mr F. A. Wlntaker, M.H.R., telegraphed, in answer to the Mayor, that Mr J. B. Whyte had the Borough Boundaries Bill in hand. He also stated that under the Post-office Act, 1881, the council could not demand any tolls from mail coaches. — The Town Clerk said the remission of the tolls in the case ef mail coaches would mean a loss of nearly £70 a year. — On the motion of Cr. Bradley, it was resolved to write to the Government drawing attention to the loss which the borough will sustain. — Messrs Hesketh and Richmond wrote giving an opinion 411, a3 to Mr Sims' lease of part of lot Hamilton East. They were of opinion that the lessee was acting wrongfully, inasmuch as he was "wasting" the estate, and the council could obtain an injunction to restrain him. —It was resolved to instruct Mr W. M. Hay to write to Mr Sims requesting him to cease taking gravel, and to ask for payment for that already taken. — Mrs Weir applied for a crossing opposite her property in Auglesea-street. Granted. — Mr Graham, Relieving Officer, Auckland, wrote, intimating that an entra 5s per month would be paid to Mrs Bauer and family, "which was more than the amount usually paid. The letter was received. — The following accounts were passed for payment :— W.S.N. Co., 18s 3d : E. Porter and Co, £1 (3s fid ; Geo. Dickenson, 16s ; G. W. Armstrong, lls ; T. G. Daley, £10. —The statement of funds was read as follows :—: — General account, (overdraft) £52 16s 9d ; special fund account, (credit) £152 4s Bd. — It was agreed to continue the services of the bridge toll-collector for the current month. — Cr. Peat reported that Mr Mays objected to anyone going on his land to clean out the drain at the rear of Whyte's buildings, but that he was willing to do the work for '7s. — It was agreed te accede to Mr Mays' terms. — An application from 'Mr R. Bradley to have a crossing made opposite his property was granted. — Cr. Peat reported that a portion of the main drain in Angle-sea-street had caved inj and 'it was 'resolved tojrefer the matter to the Works Committee, with power to act. — On the 1 recommendation, of Cr. Tippen, it, was agreed, to employ Mr F. Forrest to prune 'the trees' "in Grey-street, arid replace where necessary for' tlie sam of 30k, the ' amount agreed upon, the borougH workman to repair the tree-fences where necessary.—On the motion of Cr.
