RESIDENT MA GISTRA S' COURT, CAMBRIDGE. Yesterday.— (Before Mr H. W. Northcroft, R.M., and Col. Lyon, J.P.) Assault.
F. G. RhN'OKtiij was charged on the information of Ellen Hickey, wife of William Hickey, for having on the 2lst February last, assaulted her. , Mr Dyer for informant, and Mr Hay for defendant. Defendant through Mr Hay pleaded guilty, and was fined £7 and costs. Civil Cases. McVeagh v. Tuhakarina. Judgment summons. Ordered to pay £5 a month xmtil the debt was cleared off with costs. — Jas. Hally v. Te Railri, claim £5 19. Defendant ordered to pay the whole amount into court with costs £2 8s 6d. within two month's, or in default two month's imprisonment. — lunes v. Bright claim £19 4s 6d. Mr Dyer for defendant said he had filed a declaration of insolvency on the previous day which was signed in his presence. Mr G-resham on behalf of the plaintiff, applied to have the case adjourned to next court day. — Application granted. — Norgrove v. Morshead. Claim for goods. Mv Dyer foi 1 plaintiff, and Mr Keesing for defendant. Judgment for amount paid into court. — McVeagh v. Parker, Claim £20. Judgment for amount and costs (£3 5s 4d). — Same v. Lewis De Lane. Claim, 14s lOd. Judgment for amount and costs (£1 5s 4d).— Whitaker and Sheehan v. R. Swayne. Claim, t8 14s scl for legal services rendered, [r Dyer for plaintiffs, and Mr Gresham for defendant. Mr J. P. Campbell waa called by Mr Dyer to prove the debt. Tne charges were fair and reasonable. Mr Gresham entered upon an examination of the witness as to the reasonableness of the charge, but was interrupted by Mr Dyer, who contended that the taxing Officer at the Supreme Court, Auckland, was the proper person to apply to for a ruling in that matter. Judgment for the amount and costs, subject to the bill being taxed.
