The following cable me3sage, dated London, May 7th, and received per Rotorua, at the Bluff, give further details of the murder in Phoenix Park, Dublin :— As Lord Frederick Cavendish, the newly appointed Chief Secretary for Ireland, was walking in company with Thomas Havalind Burke, his Undersecretary, in Phcenix Park, last evening at 7 o'clock, a cab halted alongside them and five disguised men alighted and suddenly attacked the two gentlemen with daggers. An evidently desperate struggle ensued, as the bodies were found covered with wounds. The people of Dublin are stupefied at this terrible murder, which occurred in broad daylight. The police are scouring the city and country, and are hopeful of effecting a speedy capture of the assassins. Lord Frederick Cavendish had arrived with Lord Spencer, the Lord-Lieutenant, on the previous day, and had experienced a cordial reception. The bodies of the murdered gentlemen were found forty yards from the ViceRegal Lodge by Mr Maguire,3a bicyclist. A boy named Jacobs states that he saw a group of men apparently wrestling. , Two of them fell, and the others entered a cab and drove off in the direction of Jibe chapel and Zoological Gardens. , ttt>+*~< bodies were conveyed to S. Stephens Hospital* where it was found, that Mr ~ Burke had' received severe 1 stabs in the region of the heart, that bis throat was cut.
