SYDNEY SQUARE.
TO THE EDITOB. Sik, — I regret very much that I was! unavoidably absent from the meeting re fencing Sydney Square, on Monday v night last, aa I should have very much liked to have the opportunity of explaining a few things arient said Square. In the first place I tbink'it would be advisable for the committee to pay* up for. the of the earn© before they goto
any further expense in the matter. Messrs Robert Harris, W. Cumming and another, owe me some £15, more or less, monies earned tinder contract from these gentlemen, and yet in the face of this we have the statement of the treasurer that the public subscribed £80, and the Borough Council £20, towards the work. If this is so there must be a balance in hand, as I wanted some £85 in all for the work done. Then, why not pay up ? As a matter of fact, I received £39 from the Borough Council, and something over £30 from the treasurer, so somebody must be wrong in his figures. I would very much like to seethe Square fenced, and will be willing to assist in the matter, but I cannot afford to do so when the levelling has already cost me some £30. That is £15 loss, and £15 balance due by committee. — 1 am. &c. T. G. Sandes.
