The English Waterloo Cup.

The running off for the above Cup took place on the 15th February, and follow* ing days, and the winner of the big event was found in Oapt. Ellis's h p Snowflght, by Bothal Pafk— Curiosity, who beat the Earl of Haddington's .bk b Hornpipe, by Bedfellow — Hornet, and took the stake, valued at £500. With reference to this great couraing event the Newcastle correspondent of the Sportsman telegraphed as follows :— ,"The victory of Snowflight in the Dog Derby "will go a long way to still further popularise coursing in Northumberland.' The daughter of Bothal Park and Curiosity, who landed the great event of the coursiug world, is the property of a small fanner, residing in the Bedlington district, and was, we believe, presented to him by her breeder. This is the first greyhound he ever owned, and while nobleman and gentlemen spend many thousands of pounds in , endeavouring to procure good greyhounds, Mr T. Hall has succeeded in getting to the top of the tree in his first attempt. The bitch has been very heavily supported in Northumberland, and in Newcastle alone W hear of two gentlemen who have landed good stakes, one for £3000 and the other for £2000." ' ' The Waterloo Purse was won by Mr J. G. Winder's ns be d Macpherson, by Master Sam— Annie McPherson, beating thirty-one others. The Waterloo Plate Avas won by Mr L; Pilkiiigton's be d De« bonnaire, by Master Sam — Death, beating fifteen others. The total amount of the Purse, Plate and Cup, was £1,600.
