The case of Roderick McLean, the wouldbe assassin of the Queen, \vas to-day again brought before the special Commission at Reading. After a full inquiry, the prisoner was found not guilty of the charge of treason on the ground that he was noHu a sane condition when he committed the act. McLean will eouse- | quently be detained during Her Majesty's pleasure. An extensive strike of colliers has occurred at Wrexhain, Denbighshire, Wales. The locked-out miners to-day besieged the offices of the officials of the various mines, and the latter only effected their escape from the attacks of the mob with difficulty. The militaiy stationed in the neighbourhood had to be called out before the disturbance conld be suppressed. The police have effected the capture at Cork of ten persons on a charge of treason. The arrests were made on tho strength of evidence given to the authorities by an informer who was previously an accomplice of the prisoners. A disastrous explosion has occurred in Pelton Fell Colliery, near Durham. A large number of miners were at work at the time of the explosion, and so far as is at present known, 35 have met their , deaths. A Bill providing that what may be defined as the necessary expenses of elections to Parliament should be charged to the rates of the borough, county, or district in which the election takes place, was read a second time in the House of Commons to-day. The measure has been introduced by a private member, but it receives the support of the Government.
