OUAUPO. School Picnic on Easter Monday.

A picnic on a scale hitherto quite unknown in the annals of Ohaupo, took place on Monday last, Mr Karl kindly providing the site, a spot thoroughly suitable in every respect, pleasant, sheltered, high and dry, in fact almost the only place fit for the purpose, after the late violent weather. Subscriptions from the parents and friends of the school children furnished the sinews of war, and the efforts of Mr Karl and his son in erecting swings, refreshment tables, &c, were fully appreciated all round. The centre of the township was the rendezvous where the children assembled between 10 and 11 o'clock, and they quickly moved off to the picnic ground. Arrived there, after some light refreshment, the amusements of the day began ; events followed rapidly, and all was life and activity. The programme, consisting of flat races, hurdle races, sack races, jumping, &c, for the boys, and a number of flat races for the girls, Avas successfully carried out under the superintendence of Messrs Chas. Karl and T. Wade. The subsequent distribution of prizes, was the culminating feature of the days' amusement ; the unsuccessful competitors received some gift as a memento ot the day, and thus all returned home pleased and satisfied with the day's entertainment, and not likely soon to forget Easter Monday, 1882. Too much cannot be said in praise of the efforts of Mrs and Miss Chapman, and the Misses Annie and Mary Karl, who exerted themselves to the utmost in making the picnic a success, and its successful issue must afford much gratification to them, and ;fco all others who kindly assisted.-— (Correspondent.)
