THE ROTORUA ROAD.

The Constabularly nave now settled down to work in veal earnest on the Rotoraaioad, and the camp presents a perfectly organised appearance. Though the men are somewhat scattered, and divided into several batches, they are all pretty comfortable and contented. A number of the constables are stationed in Cambridge, a few are encamped about twelve miles from Cambridge repairing the road, which in some places has got out of order, and a large batcli are carrying on the work of excavation at the hill in the load a few miles on the other side of Oxford. The remainder are proceeding with the road through the bush. A billiard-room is being erected in the vicinity of the larger camp by Mr C. Bailey, who has come with the men from Taranaki. Mr Isaacs, of Cambridge, the ration contractor, still supplies the men, but his contract having been surrendered, terminates some time during this month. Mr J. OBrien, late of Cambridge West, is also in the itinerant storekeeping line, The supply of fresh water is very scarce, and this is one great source of inconvenience, perhaps misfoitune, to which the men arc subjected. Though they prefer camp lite at Parihaka to camp life on the liotorua road, with the exception of two men none have as yet .abandoned their occupation.
