The Australian liner Famenoth, 983 tons, has become a total wreck at Gravesend. Five of the crew are missing, and it is believed they have been drowned. A very severe gale has been experienced in the English Channel, and on the English and French coasts. It has proved most disastrous at Havre, where several wrecks have resulted, and the lifeboat which was proceeding to the assistance of a vessel was capsized, and the crew, numberiDg sixteen men, were drowned. The house of Mr Mahou, magistrate, residing near Rotbcommon, was destroyed by an explosion of dynamite last night. The inmates, however, escaped uninjured. The perpetrators of the outrage have not yet been arrested. A deputation of the members of the British and Colonial Union waited upon the Secretary of State for the Colonies to-day, in reference to the AngloFrench commercial relations. In reply to the various speakers Earl Kimberly stated that the French Government declined to accord to the British colonies the "most favoured nation treatment," on account of the diversity of the various colonial tariffs and high duties levied by the colonies upon French goods. England, Earl Kimberly added, was unable to control the decision of the French Government. Rumours are current in Europe that a meeting will shortly take place between the Czar of Russia and the Emperor Francis of Austria.
